July 16th, 2015

Oakley Lower chose Setter Shelters to build a new walkway canopy to join their two buildings. They opted for a monopitch canopy with customised roofing sheets.

Custom Outdoor Classroom at Hitchin Boys’ School

March 24th, 2015

Setter Play has always had links to Hitchin Boys’ School, from the MD’s sons attending there, to sponsoring the Upper Sixth rugby team. It was therefore a matter of great pride when we were approached by HBS to build a wooden outdoor classroom on the edge of their playing field.

Being a secondary school, the Boys’ School required a large and durable canopy with room for large classes to be taught outside.

Brand new designs at Cotton End

March 6th, 2015

Working in partnership with Scape and Kier Construction, Setter Limited have been installing our cutting-edge entrance canopies across Bedfordshire.

Cotton End’s recently constructed new school buildings needed modern entrance canopies to match their stylish design.

We came up with an ingenious solution; a metal structure encased in a wood finish. This combines the structural integrity of steel with the style and elegance of wood.

The focal point of the entrance canopy, however, is, the coloured roof. Setter has just begun to offer these canopies in a huge range of colours, and Cotton End elected for a variety to help brighten up their playground.

All designs are CAD-produced, allowing easy integration into the site plans. All structural calculations are made prior to installation, to ensure the canopies meet the most stringent of requirements placed by the main contractor.

Brand new Canopy completed at Uffington Church of England Primary School

February 11th, 2015

Uffington Primary School’s Headteacher, Amy Carnell, approached Setter Shelters to design and build a canopy in place of their old one which was in desperate need of replacement. Upon visiting the need for a replacement was apparent; the purpose of the canopy was valid, however their aging canopy was both structurally unsound and leaking. A look under the previous canopy:

The space Uffington wanted to expand into:

In their brief, Uffington wished to not only replace their old canopy, but also extend it so that their two EYFS classrooms were interconnected underneath the canopy. This then expanded their all-weather-play area massively by creating a new covered outdoor space for both classes to use. A look at the new canopy:

A view from further away:

Uffington Primary School is in a sensitive location in an idyllic village in Oxfordshire, so the shelter had to not only be sympathetic to its surroundings, but also be complient with planning laws. As you can see from the pictures above, the canopy certainly fits in with the surroundings. It also succesfully conjoins the two classrooms as requested. With regard to the planning laws to be complied with, Setter Shelters acted as Uffington’s planning advice and consultancy service, to assist with any issues Uffington had with planning permission. This meant we provided a complete service from start to finish, making it a lot easier for Uffington to order from us.
